This badge activity transforms participants into “Plastic Detective Reporters.” Through storytelling and media-making, they document real-life challenges and solutions related to plastic waste.
It helps youth develop their voice and vision as eco-reporters using mobile video.
- Complete the Plastic Detective Report video (1–3 min).
- Interview someone or show a place that illustrates plastic use or waste.
- Use a storyboard or checklist to guide your filming.
- Reflect: What did you learn? What can you change?

STEP 1: Planning your message
- Choose a topic (e.g., plastic use at school, litter in a park, a recycling hero).
- Use a simple structure:
- Introduction – Who are you? What’s your report about?
- Investigation – Show the problem or interview someone.
- Solution – What can be done? What did you learn?
- Call to Action – What do you want others to do?

STEP 2: Record Footage
Use a phone/tablet with a decent camera.
- Keep your device steady (use a book or a bottle tripod).
- Use natural light and avoid noisy backgrounds.
- Capture short clips (10–20 seconds).
- Use your own voice or add text later.
STEP 3: Edit video
Edit your video:
- Trim clips
- Add titles or subtitles
- Insert music or voice-over (optional)
- Keep it under 3 minutes!

STEP 4: Share your video
- Save the final version in MP4 format

- Description of tools used for recording and software used for editing
- Link to final video
