Blended training on building digital youth work strategies

Exploring Digital Competences in Youth Work

This badge is awarded for active learning from the online workshop of the Digital Systemic blended course: “Digital Competences for Youth Workers and Young People”.

During this 90-minute session, participants explored the following topics (view video recording and download slides):
  • How to identify and address digital competence development needs of youth workers.
  • What critical digital literacies mean and how they support meaningful youth engagement.
  • How youth workers can promote and protect young people’s digital rights
  • How to evaluate and recognise digital skills in youth work using assessment tools.

The workshop included interactive elements, such as online polling (see Mentimeter results) and breakout room discussions (access Padlet), which encouraged participants to reflect on their digital youth work roles and share practice-based insights.

Participation in this workshop contributes especially to developing the following competences from the Digital Competence Framework for Youth Workers (DYW SNAC, 2023):
  • Assessing their digital competences – Participants reflected on their digital skills, strengths, and areas for growth in the context of youth engagement.
  • Promoting digital citizenship and digital rights – Participants explored how to integrate young people’s digital rights into youth work.
  • Developing critical digital literacy – The workshop introduced approaches to foster reflective and informed digital engagement among young people.

This workshop contributes to strengthening human resources and competence development, as outlined in the Digital Capacities of Youth Work Organisations (DYW SNAC, 2023). It supports organisations in building structured, strategic approaches to developing digital competences among staff and volunteers.

The Cities of Learning Network appraises participants' engagement in developing digital youth work competencies through structured, non-formal online learning.
